SEWANEE, Tenn. (April 9, 2016) – The No. 10 ranked Sewanee women's tennis team improved to 15-5 this season with a perfect 9-0 win against Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Birmingham-Southern, Saturday, at the Bruton-Guerry Tennis Courts.
Additionally, Sewanee, which has never lost an SAA contest, is 4-0 after giving the Panthers their first conference loss of the season. The Tigers have also won eight straight matches, including the last four by perfect 9-0 scores.
In doubles action, Sewanee opened the match as Lindsey Liles and Clementina Davila defeated Petro and Hammond, 8-2, for their 20th win this season.
At No. 2 doubles, Kate Johnston and Bea Benavides defeated Courtney and Wisener 8-4 while at No. 3 Annie Veron and Maggie Crumbliss topped Carroll and Taylor, 8-6.
In singles play, Sewanee opened Crumbliss stayed in perfect in conference action with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 over Mary Carroll. Crumbliss has yet to drop a single game this season in SAA play.
At No. 5, Taylor Childress defeated Mary Taylor 6-0, 6-1 while at No. 6 Veron rolled over Virginia Hammond 6-0, 6-1.
The Tigers then extended their lead to 7-0 when Christina Merchant defeated McKenzie Courtney 6-1, 6-2.
Davila then defeated Isabella Wisener at No. 2, 6-1, 6-3 while Liles closed out her ninth straight victory in singles with a 6-3, 6-4 victory against Carlee Petro at No. 1.
