SEWANEE, Tenn. (April 5, 2016) – The No. 10 ranked Sewanee women's tennis team swept regional-rival Covenant, 9-0, Tuesday, at the Bruton-Guerry Tennis Courts.
The Tigers are now 14-5 and have won seven straight contests. Sewanee has not lost a match in doubles or singles since March 26.
Sewanee opened play as Kate Johnston and Bea Benavides topped Lugar and Smith, 8-1 at No. 1. At No. 2, Annie Veron and Maggie Crumbliss topped DeLuca and Morin by the same score.
Finally, in doubles, Mary Jane McCaghren and Maura McCrary defeated Geving and Spielman, 8-0.
In singles action, Lindsey Liles had little trouble with DeLuca at No. 1, 6-1, 6-0. A court over, Crumbliss defeated Lugar with a pair of 6-0 sets while Taylor Childress won against Gracie Smith at No. 3, 6-2, 6-0.
On the final three courts, Veron won against Morin at No. 4, 6-1, 6-1 while Haley Tucker defeated Geving at No. 5, 6-3, 6-0.
Finally, McCaghren was perfect at No. 6 against Spielman 6-0, 6-0.
