No. 12 Sewanee rolls past Hendrix, 9-0

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (April 29, 2016) – The No. 12 ranked Sewanee women's tennis team opened the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Tournament with a 9-0 win over Hendrix, Friday, at Old Fort Park.

The Tigers are now 19-5 overall and have won 12 straight matches.

Sewanee earned the first three points of the match by sweeping each doubles' match.

At No. 1, Lindsey Liles and Annie Veron blanked Julia Lefler and Lauren Mahaney, 8-0. At No. 2, Christina Merchant and Bea Benavides defeated Pratheepa Ravikumar and Laela Zaidi 8-4. Finally, Elske Parker and Kate Johnston rolled over Sarah Nieman and Sarah Glass 8-0.

In singles action, Sewanee kept rolling.

Liles defeated Lefler at No. 1 with a pair of 6-1 set wins. Merchant then crushed Ravikumar 6-0, 6-4 while Veron rolled over Mahaney 6-1, 6-0.

At No. 4 Mary Jane McCaghren defeated Zaidi 6-0, 6-4 while at No 5 Benavides had little trouble with Nieman 6-0, 6-4.

Finally, Parker won at No. 6 against Glass 6-0, 6-1.
