No. 10 Sewanee blanks Rhodes, 9-0

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (April 3, 2016) – The No. 10 ranked Sewanee women's tennis team rolled over Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Rhodes 9-0, Saturday, at the Dunavant Tennis Complex.

Sewanee, who is also ranked second behind No. 1 nationally ranked Emory in the Atlantic South Region, is now 13-5 overall. The Tigers have nationally ranked wins over No. 11 Carnegie Mellon, No. 24 Trinity (Texas), No. 32 Trinity (Conn.), No. 16 DePauw, and No. 17 MIT. The Tigers only losses came against No. 1 Emory, No. 9 Washington, No. 5 Pomona-Pitzer, No. 12 Johns Hopkins, and No. 4 Bowdoin. Sewanee has won six straight matches since March 14.

The Tigers opened the match as Lindsey Liles and Clementina Davila defeated Caroline Doherty and Anna Vokov at No. 1 doubles 8-2. At No. 2 doubles, Annie Veron and Maggie Crumbliss rolled over Morgan Wilkins and Sara Lynn Abbott 8-2. Then at No. 3, Elske Parker and Mary Jane McCaghren outlasted Mary Massey and Annie Thomas 8-6.

As singles play began, McCaghren defeated Massey with a pair of 6-0 set wins. Veron then defeated Abbott at No. 4, 6-1, 6-0 while Crumbliss topped Wilkins by the same score.

At No. 2, Davila blanked Vokov with another 6-0 set win while Liles had little trouble against Doherty winning at No. 1, 6-0, 6-2.

Finally, Parker won at No. 5 against Thomas in straight sets 7-5, 6-1.

Sewanee will look to keep rolling against regional rival Covenant, Tuesday.
