MEMPHIS, Tenn. (April 2, 2016) – The No. 10 ranked Sewanee women's tennis team won its fifth straight match Saturday, as the Tigers rolled over Southern Athletic Association (SAA) foe Hendrix 9-0.
The Tigers have not lost since March 14 and are now 12-5 overall. All five losses came against top-10 ITA National ranked teams.
Sewanee dominated the match in doubles winning all three contests by a combined 24-2 score. Both at No. 2 and No. 3 Sewanee's teams of Taylor Childress and Haley Tucker along with Christina Merchant and Maura McCrary won at 8-0. At No. 1 Kate Johnston and Bea Benavides defeated Julia Lefler and Lauren Mahaney 8-2.
Then in singles, Sewanee won every match in straight sets.
Merchant won against Lefler at No. 1, 6-3, 6-1 while Childress topped Pratheepa Ravikumar by a pair of 6-1 wins at No. 2.
Hucker then defeated Mahaney at No. 3, 6-3, 6-0 while McCrary crushed Laela Zaidi 6-0, 6-0.
Finally, Benavides defeated Sarah Nieman 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 and Johnston rolled over Cooper Chimbel 6-3, 6-0.
