ROME, Ga. (April 17, 2016) – The No. 10 ranked Sewanee women's tennis team won its 12th straight match Sunday, as the Tigers blanked both Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rivals Berry and Oglethorpe, 9-0.
Sewanee is now 18-5 overall and finished the regular season with a perfect 7-0 mark in SAA action.
Against Berry, Sewanee opened as Clementina Davila and Lindsey Liles defeated Lauren Byrket and Heidi Seabaugh at No. 1, 8-0. Maggie Crumbliss and Annie Veron then topped Mary Cerny and Kaleigh Carpenter 8-4 at No. 2 while Christina Merchant and Maura McCrary defeated Kelsey McCray and Emmie Cornell, 8-0.
In singles action Davila won at No. 1, 6-0, 6-1 while Merchant topped Byrket at No. 2, 6-3, 6-1.
Sewanee then won the remaining four matches all in straight sets. In fact, no Tiger player lost more than two games in any set. That includes wins by Crumbliss, Taylor Childress, Haley Tucker, and Mary Jane McCaghren.
Against OU, Liles and Davila won at No. 1 doubles, 8-1. Crumbliss and Veron then earned an 8-4 win at No. 2 while McCaghren and Merchant won the last point at 8-1.
In singles, Liles, Childress, Veron, Tucker, McCaghren, and McCrary all had impressive straight set victories.
