CLAREMONT, Calif. (March 11, 2016) – Seventh-ranked Carnegie Mellon outlasted the 28th-ranked Sewanee men's tennis team 6-3 Friday in Claremont, Calif.
The Tigers are now 4-5 this season as they opened their West Coast spring break trip in California. The Tigers will also play Chapman, Whittier, Trinity (Conn.), and Salisbury in the Golden State.
Sewanee opened the match by winning at No. 1 doubles. The No. 2 ranked team of Jack Gray and Eric Roddy defeated Vayum Arora and Daniel Levine, 9-8.
At No. 2 doubles Scott Gallimore and Alex Depascual lost to Jeffrey Chen and Kenny Zheng. 8-4 while Avery Schober and Fletcher Kerr dropped an 8-4 decision to Abhishek Alla and Yuvraj Kumors at No. 3.
In singles Schober picked up a win at No. 1 singles in a hard fought match against Alla. The Tiger junior won the first set 7-6 (5) and then took the second at 6-4.
The other Tiger victory in singles came at No. 2. Roddy defeated Levine with a pair of 6-4 set wins.
Sewanee returns to action at Chapman at 1:00 p.m. (PST) on Saturday.
