SEWANEE, Tenn. (Feb. 6, 2016) – The No. 11 Sewanee women's tennis team dominated its season-opening match with a perfect 9-0 victory against NAIA team Tennessee Wesleyan, Saturday, on the Bruton-Guerry Tennis Courts.
The Tigers opened by sweeping all three doubles points. Maura McCrary and Sara Thompson won at No. 2 at 8-2, while Lindsey Liles and Clementina Davila were perfect at No. 1 with an 8-0 victory. At No. 3, Elske Parker and Kate Johnston rolled to an 8-1 win.
In singles action, Sewanee won every match in straight sets.
Davila defeated Kaitlyn Barlok 6-0, 6-0 while Liles won at No. 1 over Katerina Saskova by a score of 6-0, 6-2.
After a 6-2, 6-0 victory by Christina Merchant at No. 3, Maggie Crumbliss dominated Rachel Walker with a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win.
Finally, Taylor Childress defeated Haruka Hirata at No. 5 6-0, 6-1 while Annie Veron topped Thays Cardoso 6-4, 6-0.
Sewanee returns to action against nationally-ranked Washington University next Friday at 2:00 p.m.
