SEWANEE, Tenn. (Feb. 12, 2016) – No. 11 Washington jumped to an early 5-1 lead en route to a 6-3 win over the No. 12-ranked Sewanee women's tennis team, Friday, inside the Charlotte Guerry Indoor Tennis Center.
The Tigers are now 1-1 while the visiting Bears improved to 1-0. Washington will now play No. 2 Emory on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. while Sewanee takes the Eagles at 3:00 p.m., tomorrow.
WashU opened the match by winning two of three doubles points. The lone Tiger victory came at No. 1 as senior Lindsey Liles and sophomore Clementina Davila defeated Rebecca Ho and Aly Coran, 8-2.
The Bears responded as Grace Deering, Jamie Silverberg, and Ho all swept in straight sets in positions 3, 2, and 1.
Sewanee earned its first singles victory at No. 4 as sophomore Taylor Childress defeated Coran in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. Teammate Maggie Crumbliss then defeated Kaylan Griffith 6-7, 7-5, 10-6.
Finally, Washington completed the scores as Kate Lee topped Annie Veron 6-2, 4-6, 10-6.
