Volleyball falls at Rhodes, 3-1

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (Oct. 22, 2016)  Despite two close final sets, the Sewanee volleyball team dropped a 3-1 match at Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Rhodes, Saturday, inside Mallory Gymnasium.

The Tigers lost the first two sets 25-8 and 25-16 before outlasting the Lynx 29-27 in the third. Rhodes rallied back in the fourth set win by the same score.

Again Sewanee was limited by a poor attack. Sewanee hit only .060 for the match while the Lynx converted their offense to a .225 attack.

The two bright spots on offense were Diamond Stewart and setter Constance Connolly. Stewart added a team-high 11 kills while Connolly, who is from Memphis, led the Tigers with 29 assists.

On defense, senior libero Sara Jayne Sutton led Sewanee with 23 digs. Caroline Owens added 10 digs while Connolly finished with a double-double after an 11 stops.

Sewanee quickly returns to action with a noon match at Hendrix, Sunday.
