Offensive woes hamper Sewanee at Millsaps

Box Score

JACKSON, Miss. (Jan. 22, 2016) – Making a season-worst 24 percent of its attempts, the Sewanee women's basketball team allowed Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Millsaps to pull away in the final two quarters for a 56-36 win, Friday, inside the Hangar Dome.

The loss is the first in the past three games for the Tigers, who dropped to 10-6 overall and 2-3 in SAA action. Millsaps improved to 9-7 overall and 3-2 in league action.

Down only one at halftime, 20-19, the Tigers took back the lead to open the third quarter. A jumper by freshman Bella Taylor gave the Tigers a one-point advantage. Unfortunately, Sewanee's offense struggled from there.

Sewanee made only one field goal the rest of the third quarter. That allowed the Majors to build a 39-25 lead to start the fourth.

Despite scoring 11 points the final 10 minutes of action, Sewanee could not stop Millsaps who made 55.6 percent of its attempts in the fourth.

Overall, Braxton Thomas, who finished with 13 points, and Kim Klunk, who added 12, led the Majors.

Junior Savannah Rose paced Sewanee with nine points. Taylor and Sue Kim scored six points each.

The Tigers return to action at Birmingham-Southern, Sunday.
