INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Aug. 7, 2015) – Former Sewanee Women's Tennis Scholar-Athlete and Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Woman of the Year Bronte Goodhue has been named the 32nd Tiger student-athlete to receive a prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship.
NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships are awarded to scholar-athletes who excel academically and athletically and who are in their final year of intercollegiate athletic competition.
Over her career, Goodhue embodied a true scholar-athlete. She garnered three consecutive SAA Player of the Year awards, the only scholar-athlete in league history to do so. She also piloted the Sewanee's women's tennis team to four consecutive top-20 finishes in the national rankings while garnering All-America status the past three seasons. Goodhue was also a five-time ITA All-American.
In the classroom, Goodhue graduated at the top of her class with a 4.08 grade-point average (GPA). The 2015 Valedictorian was a four-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Scholar-Athlete. In 2014, she was awarded the ITA Regional Arthur Ashe Sportsmanship and Leadership award for her selfless and admirable contributions to the game.
Additionally, Goodhue dedicated much of her time in volunteer opportunities while serving on the Alumni Leadership Council.
Regionally, Goodhue earned the 2015 ITA Most Improved Senior Player of the Year honor while being a four-time All-SAA First-Team selection and four-time All-SAA All-Academic honoree.
Goodhue becomes the first Sewanee women's tennis player to be awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship since her former teammate Jenny Liles was a recipient in 2013. Under head coach Conchie Shackelford, Sewanee has been awarded three NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships.
Goodhue joins former Sewanee swimmer Brian Glatt as Tiger winners of the award in 2014-15.
With 32 Postgraduate Scholarship recipients, Sewanee ranks among the nation's leading institutions in any NCAA division. Created in 1964, NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships promote and encourage education by rewarding the Association's most accomplished student-athletes. There are 29 male and 29 female student-athletes honored, with each receiving $7,500.
