SEWANEE, Tenn. (May 6 2015) – For the third straight season, the No. 12 Sewanee women's tennis team opened the NCAA Tournament with a victory. Playing at home at the Burton-Guerry Tennis Center, the Tigers defeated visiting Agnes Scott, 5-0, and will now play No. 11 Washington University (St. Louis) on Friday.
Sewanee opened the match by sweeping all three doubles contests. At No. 1 Bronte Goodhue and Lindsey Liles topped Anne and Claire Rinaldo, 8-2.
At No. 2 Kate Johnston and Clementina Davila defeated Maddie Hoffman and Taylor Lee, 8-2.
Then at No. 3, Annie Veron and Maggie Crumbliss rolled past Nikki Langford and Camille Wilson by the same 8-2 margin.
In singles, Sewanee kept playing well. Leading on all six courts, Davila closed out Anne Rinaldo in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 while Veron defeated Anastasia Bennett 6-1, 6-0.
