Offensive woes slow Sewanee in loss at Millsaps

Box Score

JACKSON, Miss. (Feb. 13, 2015) – Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Millsaps held the Sewanee women's basketball team to one of its worst performances of the season, Friday, as the Majors defeated the Tigers, 64-38, inside the Hangar Dome.

Sewanee scored only 16 first-half points and made only 33.3 percent of its attempts in the opening 20 minutes. Millsaps took a 22-point halftime lead behind making 53.8 percent of its shots in the first half.

After Casey Hassett gave Sewanee a 2-0 lead after the tipoff, Sewanee stayed in the game through the first five minutes. The Tigers' last lead was at 4-2 when Rebekah Faulkner connected on a jumper with 15:45 left. Millsaps then outscored Sewanee 27-5 over the next 10 minutes.

Sewanee did play better in the second half. In fact, the Tiger defense limited the Majors to a 32.0 field goal percentage the final 20 minutes. Unfortunately, the large first-half deficit was too much for Sewanee to overcome.

Individually, freshman Hannah McCormack scored a team-high nine points for the Tigers.

Beverly Holmes led Millsaps and all scorers with a game-high 22 points.

Sewanee continues its four-game SAA road trip with a 1:00 p.m. contest at Birmingham-Southern, Sunday.
