LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. (April 8, 2014) – After winning the first eight points, the No. 16 ranked Sewanee women's tennis team cruised past regional-rival Covenant, 8-1, Tuesday.
The nationally-ranked Tigers improved their overall record to 15-2 and have won eight straight matches dating back to March 15.
Sewanee wasted little time taking an early 3-0 lead after the Tigers earned wins at all three doubles positions. In fact, the Tigers outscored the Scots 24-3.
In singles nearby Chattanooga, Tenn., native Bronte Goodhue earned a 6-0, 6-3 win over Madeline Hyatt at No. 1.
Teammate Lindsey Liles also breezed past her singles opponent with a 6-1, 6-1 straight set victory.
At No. 3 Mary Taylor Tepper earned a 6-1, 6-2 win against Claire Luger while Elske Parker topped Sarah Carter with a pair of 6-2 sets.
Connor Thomas earned the Tigers' final win with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over Gracie Smith.
The lone Covenant win came at No. 6 as Lindsay Geving survived a close 6-3, 5-7, 10-8 match against Hastings Johnson.
After not playing a home match since March 1, the Tigers return to Sewanee for a 10:00 a.m. contest against conference foe Birmingham-Southern Friday.
