Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Feb. 23, 2014) – The Sewanee basketball team closed out its regular season with a 54-51 win over Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Hendrix, Sunday, inside Juhan Gymnasium.
The Tigers closed out their regular season with a 13-12 overall record. Sewanee will play No. 4 seed Rhodes at 3:00 p.m., Friday in Danville, Ky.
Sewanee led by as much as 11, 23-12, with 5:05 left in the first half. The Tigers eventually settled for an eight-point advantage, 25-17, at halftime.
Out of the locker room, Sewanee kept rolling. A jumper by Keshonn Carter and a four straight points from Jorden Williams the Tigers pushed their lead to 31-17 with 18:20 left.
Hendrix responded by scoring 20 of the next 27 points. With the score tied 37-37, Carter kept Sewanee in front with a jumper with 7:56 to play.
Down the stretch, both teams continued to trade scores. With 3:32 to play, Hendrix pulled to within one, when Gabe Gumm hit a three.
Sewanee responded on its next possession, as Leo Born stepped back behind the three-point arc and hit an outside jumper.
Hendrix would again make it a one-possession game with 1:07 left, when Luke Vance made a layup.
After a free throw by Seth Brown, the Warriors had one final chance to tie the score, however Vance's three with two seconds remaining missed.
Individually, Williams led Sewanee with 18 points and three assists. Carter also played well with 13 points and nine rebounds.
Colton Primm led all scorers for Hendrix with a game-high 19 points.
