Tigers improve to 5-1 with a convincing 75-57 win at Hollins

Box Score

ROANOKE, Va. (Dec. 6, 2014) – The Sewanee women's basketball team built a 20-point halftime lead en route to a 75-57 victory at Hollins, Saturday.

With the win, the Tigers are now 5-1 under first-year head coach Tom Campbell. Hollins dropped to 2-6 this season.

Hollins took an early 3-0 lead after a jumper and free throw by Britney Campbell the first two minutes of action. However, two free throws by sophomore Haley McDonough and layup by freshman Hannah McCormack gave Sewanee its first lead over the next minute.

From there, the Tigers would not relinquish their advantage the rest of the contest. Sewanee would lead by as much as 20 after runs of 16-5 and 15-8 to close the half.

After making 52.9 percent of their attempts in the first half, the Tigers stayed hot to start the second.

A three by Savannah Rose pushed Sewanee's lead to 23, 39-16, on the Tigers' first possession. In fact, that was the largest lead of the contest.

Sewanee shut down any chance of a Hollins comeback after making over 50 percent for its shots the final 18 minutes.

Overall, the Tigers finished 23-of-45 from the field (51.1 percent) while also making a season-high 47.1 percent of their three-point attempts.

Sewanee also outrebounded Hollins, 46-33.

Individually, McCormack finished with a career-high 22 points, six rebounds, two assists, and four steals. Fellow guard Jamie Chauvin scored 17 points, on 7-of-12 shooting, while freshman forward Rebekah Faulkner pitched in a career-high 10 points.

Forward Casey Hassett led the Tigers on the boards with nine rebounds.

Campbell paced Hollins with 22 points and eight rebounds.

Sewanee quickly returns to action with a 1:00 p.m. game at Roanoke, Sunday.
