Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Oct. 18, 2014) – The Sewanee volleyball team defeated Southern Athletic Association (SAA) leader Birmingham-Southern 3-2, Saturday, inside Juhan Gymnasium.
The Tigers fought back from a 2-1 deficit to win for the first-time ever against the Panthers.
After Sewanee opened with a 25-22 win, BSC earned the next two sets with scores of 25-17 and 25-18. The Tigers then fought back with a 25-23 victory and a 15-9 win the final set.
Overall, Sewanee finished with a .111 attack percentage and 47 kills. The Tigers also finished with 97 digs and 11 blocks. The block total was a single-game high this season for Sewanee.
Individually, Diamond Stewart finished with a 16-kill, 19-dig double-double. Jamie Sue Wilson also added 12 kills and seven digs.
Additionally, Rachel Schuman had a double-double with 17 assists and 14 digs. Libero Sara Jayne Sutton finished with 30 digs while Kristy Gray had a season-high 11 digs.
On the block, Casey Hassett and Maggie Stanford each finished with five block assists.
Sewanee quickly returns to action with a 1:00 p.m. match against Millsaps, Sunday.
