Quick start lifts Millsaps past Sewanee

SEWANEE, Tenn. (Jan. 12, 2014) – A 22-4 run to start the game helped Southern Athletic Association (SAA) member Millsaps defeat the Sewanee women's basketball team, 53-31, Sunday afternoon inside Juhan Gymnasium.

The loss dropped Sewanee to 6-7 overall and 0-3 in SAA play. The Majors earned their first SAA win while improving their overall record to 6-6.

After the impressive start, Millsaps used another scoring spurt over the final 10 minutes of the first half to lead 31-12 at halftime.

In the second half, Sewanee played better. The Tigers made several scoring runs throughout the half. That included making three more three-point field goals after halftime and shooting a better field goal percentage.

Individually, Casey Hassett finished with four points, seven rebounds, one assist and two blocks.

Millsaps was led by Kala Freeman, who finished with a game-high 15 points and eight rebounds. Guard Beverly Holmes pitched in 12 points on 5-of-14 shooting for the Majors.

The Tigers return to action with a 6:00 p.m., game, Tuesday, against Johnson.
