Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Jan. 10, 2014) – A number of long scoring runs lifted Southern Athletic Association (SAA) rival Birmingham-Southern past the Sewanee women's basketball team, 56-37, Friday inside Juhan Gymnasium.
After a quick start by the Tigers, the Panthers responded. BSC would lead by six, 13-7, after Ashley Curry capped off a 13-4 Panther run.
Despite its brief setback, Sewanee answered with a pair of Paige Lowe free throws.
Unfortunately, that was when the tide turned. A jumper by Jane Romano helped BSC close the half on a 14-7 run.
In the second half, things did not improve much for Sewanee. BSC opened on a 15-9 run to take a 22-point lead, 42-20, with 14:45 left.
Over the final minutes, the Panthers continued to play well. BSC capped off another scoring spurt when Curry made a layup with 5:11 left.
Individually, sophomore forward Casey Hassett led Sewanee with eight points, five rebounds, and four blocks.
Lowe also finished with eight points while Kayla Sewell added a team-high 11 rebounds.
Forward Elizabeth Bromirski led BSC with a 19-point, 15-rebound double-double. Both totals were game highs.
Sewanee will look to rebound when the Tigers host Millsaps for a 1:00 p.m. SAA game, Sunday.
