Meckstroth nets game-winner in 1-0 win against Covenant

Box Score

SEWANEE, Tenn. (Sept. 3, 2013) – Freshman Shelby Meckstroth provided all the offense the Sewanee women's soccer team would need Tuesday, as the Tigers improved to 2-0 with a 1-0 win over regional-rival Covenant at Puett Field.

After scoring both Tiger goals in Sewanee's 2-0 win against Agnes Scott, Saturday, the first-year forward netted the game-winner from teammate Jamie Samociuk in the 35th minute.

For the second straight match, Sewanee continued to dominate time of possession. The Tigers outshot the Scots, 13-5.

Individually, freshman Tyler Edell led all players with five shots while Meckstroth, Katie Morrison, and Emily Driver all finished with two attempts.

Defensively, goalkeepers Nikki Johnston and Olivia Glascoe combined for the shutout and four saves.

Sewanee will look to stay unbeaten with a 7:00 p.m. match, Friday against Tennessee Temple at the "Pit."
