No. 12 Washington (Mo.) holds on against No. 19 Sewanee

ATLANTA (March 22, 2013) – In a match that came down to a pair of third-set tiebreakers, the No. 19-ranked Sewanee women's tennis team fell just short against No. 12 Washington University (Mo.), 6-3, Friday in Atlanta.

The Tigers, who will also face nationally ranked programs No. 16 Tufts and No. 15 Washington & Lee this weekend, opened play with a win at No. 1 doubles. The Sewanee duo of Jenny and Lindsey Liles rolled past the Bears' team of Kate Klein and Corinne Rauck, 8-3.

After Washington won the other two doubles contests, Bronte Goodhue dominated Theresa Petraskova at No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-3.

The Tigers then tied the match when Jenny Liles wasted little time blowing out Klein at No. 2 with a 6-1, 6-3 straight-set win.

After the Bears earned another win, matches on Courts 3 and 4 started to take shape. At the No. 3 position Lindsey Liles opened with a strong 6-2 opening set win over Jamie Silverberg. After Silverberg stormed back to take the second set 6-3, Liles found herself down 5-2 in the third.

At the same time Liles was down, Annie Veron was in a tight match against Aly Coran. After Coran won the first set 6-4, Veron found herself down 5-3 in the second. Over the next minutes, Veron fought back by winning four straight games to take the second 7-5.

Eventually, Liles would also force a third-set tiebreaker after she rallied. However, despite valiant efforts, both Liles (11-9) and Veron (10-7) would eventually fall just short on both courts.

After securing the 5-3 score, Washington would also add one more win at No. 6.
