SEWANEE, Tenn. (Feb. 16, 2013) –The No. 18-ranked Sewanee women's tennis team rolled past NAIA-ranked No. 22 Martin Methodist, 9-0, Saturday, at the Guerry Tennis Courts inside the Fowler Athletic Center.
In double play, the Tigers jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead after Tegan Flynn and Kate Johnston, sisters Lindsey and Jenny Liles, and Bronte Goodhue and Anne Garland all won.
As singles play began, Sewanee extended its lead. The Tigers took command quickly as Lindsey Liles defeated Callie Thomas, 6-1, 6-0 at the No. 3 position.
Annie Veron then won in straight sets at the No. 4 position when she defeated Laura Ariza, 6-1, 6-2.
Teammate Goodhue then dropped Maria Charrys at No. 1 6-1, 6-2.
With a 6-0 lead, Sewanee added three more wins as Garland, Mary Taylor Tepper, and Jenny Liles did not drop a set.
The Tigers will look to stay unbeaten when Sewanee plays host to Piedmont with a 3:00 p.m., match February 22nd.
