Box Score LAGRANGE, Ga. (Nov. 23, 2013) – Despite a career-high 23 points from sophomore Keshonn Carter, the Sewanee men's basketball team dropped a 69-65 decision at LaGrange, Saturday, inside Mariotti Gymnasium.
Carter made 9-of-12 shots while grabbing a team-high eight rebounds.
The Tigers (2-2) opened the game on a 12-2 run. During that stretch, Carter scored six points while Jorden Williams and Marcellus Caldwell also had makes.
Sewanee continued to lead 18-11 when Carter made another jumper with 11:38 left.
Unfortunately, LaGrange rallied over the final 10 minutes of the first half. LaGrange eventually led by two, 31-29, at halftime.
The Panthers continued to lead in the second half, behind a great start. LaGrange opened the half on a 10-4 run.
Over the next three minutes Leo Born got Sewanee back into the game. The sophomore guard hit three three-point shots over the next five possessions, which helped Sewanee pull to within two, 48-46, with 10:24 to go.
The Tigers then forced three straight turnovers, which led to a free throw and jumper by Carter.
A layup by Caldwell then pushed the Tigers' advantage to three, 51-48, with 7:25 left.
Down the stretch, both teams continued to trade scores. LaGrange took back the lead at 56-54 with a layup by Isaiah Core.
That started a 10-5 LaGrange run. With less than a minute remaining Born cut the Sewanee deficit to five, 66-61, with a pair of free throws.
After a turnover by LaGrange, Williams made it a one-possession game with a jumper with 37 seconds to play.
However, free throws by Braxton Ford, Core, and Denzel Robinson allowed LaGrange to hold on for the win.
Overall, Sewanee made 40.4 percent of its attempts. Unfortunately, LaGrange was red-hot after the Panthers made 51.2 percent of their shots.
Along with Carter, Born added 18 points and three rebounds. Williams also pitched in nine points while Caldwell added eight points and six boards.
Guard Patrick Dugger led LaGrange with 22 points and 10 rebounds.
After two straight road games, Sewanee returns home for a 6:00 p.m. contest against Toccoa Falls, Tuesday.
