Box Score SEWANEE, Tenn. (Sept. 21, 2012) – In a hard fought match, the Sewanee men's soccer team battled its way to a 1-0 double overtime win over visiting LaGrange, Friday, at Puett Field.
The win improved Sewanee to 3-4 this season. Additionally, Sewanee opened the two-day Kyle Rote Jr. Invitational with a victory.
"Tonight was an important team win," said head coach David Poggi. "We played for each other and were tested mentally and physically. The golden goal was a fitting conclusion."
The first three periods were dominated by Sewanee's attack. Despite not scoring, the Tigers aggressiveness served them well. Sewanee outshot LaGrange 16-5 through the first overtime period.
In the second overtime, Sewanee wasted little time. After the kickoff, Sewanee played a long pass into its offensive zone. From there, sophomore defender Ford Emerson placed a beautiful pass through the LaGrange defense where senior forward Samuel Edoung-Biyo headed in the game-winner as he dove toward the near post.
Individually, sophomore Solly Thomas led all players with five shots. Additionally, senior captain Zack Goodwin and Edoung-Biyo finished with three attempts.
Sewanee will quickly return to action with a 7:00 p.m., match Saturday against Greenville.
