SEWANEE, Tenn. (Jan. 4, 2012) – Led by a stellar defensive effort, the Sewanee women's basketball team cruised to a 66-26 win over regional-rival Covenant College (Ga.) Wednesday evening inside Juhan Gymnasium.
With the victory, the Tigers pushed their winning streak to four straight games. Sewanee is now 7-4 overall while Covenant fell to 2-7.
Sewanee controlled the game from the opening tipoff. The Tigers led 10-0 after the first six minutes of play. After the Scots converted their first basket, Sewanee added to its advantage with a 9-0 run over the next seven minutes.
Covenant stopped the run at 26-7 when Jessie Blankenship hit a pair of free throws with 6:05 remaining. However, that would be the last basket the Scots would make in the first half. Sewanee would go on and add 11 more points en route to a 37-7 halftime lead.
After the intermission, the Tigers continued to pull away from Covenant the remainder of the game.

Logan Miller all finished the night with 11 points. Additionally, Sewell's 11 points and 13 rebounds gave the Calhoun, Tennessee native her first career double-double.
As a team, Sewanee's 2-3 zone defense limited Covenant to a 9-of-48 effort from the floor. The Tigers also forced 25 turnovers to go along with Sewell's three blocked shots.
Sewanee closes out its five-game homestand with a 1:00 p.m. contest Saturday against SCAC foe Centre College.
