The \#21 Sewanee women's tennis team picked up two more wins Saturday afternoon on the third day of their spring break tour of California. The Tigers blanked La Verne University, 9-0, before topping Whittier, 8-1, in the nightcap. With the pair of wins, the Tigers move to 9-0 on the year.
Against the Leopards of La Verne in the first contest of the day, Sewanee swept three doubles' matches before picking up wins in each of the six singles' slot. Jenny Liles (Little Rock, Ark., Mount St. Mary) and Kate Stanford (Mountain Brook, Ala., Mountain Brook) teamed up to take down La Verne's Luna/ Krishnamurthy pairing, 8-1, in the \#1 doubles slot. Michelle Flume (San Antonio, Tex., St. Mary's Hall) and Anne Garland (Richmond, Va., St. Catherine's ) picked up a point at \#2 doubles, defeating the Leopard's team of Lezin/ Monurlef 8-0. At \#3 doubles, Lindsay Wilburn (Hilton Head, S.C., Hilton Head Christian) and Laura Szyperski (Atlanta, Ga., Lovett) paired up and took out La Verne's Tucker and Meeks, 8-3.
The Tigers continued their blanking of the Leopards by sweeping all six singles' matches. Jenny Liles won in the \#1 slot, topping La Verne's Luna, 6-2, 6-0, while Flume picked up a win over Krishnamurthy, 6-1, 6-0, at \#2 singles. Garland won a point at three singles, defeating La Verne's Garcia, 6-1, 6-2.
Julia Wood (Tulsa, Okla., Union) won at \#4 singles, edging out Lezin, 6-4, 6-0, before Derry Roberson (San Ignacio, Belize, St. Stephen's Episcopal) took home a point at \#5 singles, beating Monurlef, 6-4, 6-3. Meredith Lawrence (Nashville, Tenn., Harpeth Hall) finished up the Tigers' win at six singles, topping Montelli, 6-1, 6-1.
The Tigers stayed perfect on the day and the season after beating Whittier 8-1 in their second match of the day. Liles and Stanford kept a perfect record at \#1 doubles with an 8-4 win over the Poets' Serylo and Hamada. Flume and Garland got their second win of the day at \#2 doubles, topping Dredge and Oliker, 8-3. Wilburn and Szyperski teamed up again to take down Whittier's team of Moss and Gelgur, 8-1, in the three spot.
In singles' play, Stanford remained unbeaten with a win in the \#1 slot, topping Serylo, 6-1, 6-1. Flume took out Hamada at \#2 singles, 6-2, 6-1, before Garland defeated Dredge, 6-1, 6-4, in the \#3 position.
Lindsay Wood beat Gelgur at \#4 singles, winning 6-1, 6-0, before Oliker picked up the Poets' only point of the day by topping Sewanee's Wilburn, 2-6, 6-0, 10-5. Roberson got the last point of the day for the Tigers' at \#6 singles after taking out Vigorita, 6-1, 6-1.
Sewanee will look for its' tenth win of the season on Monday, when they venture to Claremont, California for a 2:30 p.m. meeting with Claremont-Mudd Scripps.
