SEWANEE, Tenn. (Dec. 6, 2011) - Led by
Alex Ginsburg's 14 points and 10 rebounds, the Sewanee women's basketball team ended its three-game losing streak with an impressive 82-57 win over Hiwassee Tuesday inside Juhan Gymnasium.
With the win, Sewanee improved its overall record to 4-4.
The Tigers jumped out to a 12-0 lead after junior
Heather Baier hit a three with only three minutes off the clock. Sewanee would see its advantage extend to 26, when junior
Dana Middleton made the score 43-17 with a layup right before the half.
Out of the intermission things continued to go well for the Tigers. Sewanee scored three field goals, within the first 60 seconds, to push its lead to 32. After Hiwassee's Bethany Allen made the score 50-29, Sewanee never allowed the Tigers to get closer than 21 points the rest of the way.
Middleton led the purple and gold with 16 points and nine assists. Baier,
Logan Miller, and
Paige Lowe all netted nine points for the Tigers.
Allen led Hiwassee with a game-high 25 points on 11-of-22 shooting.
Sewanee returns to action with a 6:00 p.m. contest Friday December 16 against Oglethorpe.
