BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Nov. 4, 2011) – A late second half goal doomed the Sewanee women's soccer team, as the Tigers fell to rival Centre 1-0 Friday, in the opening round of the 2011 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Women's Soccer Tournament.
With the loss, Sewanee closes out its season with 6-11-2 record.
After both Sewanee and Centre failed to convert any offensive attacks throughout the first 84 minutes of play, the Colonels' Kelsey Boling fired home the game-winning goal with only six minutes remaining in regulation.
Overall, the match was played evenly with both squads registering nine shots.
Individually, seniors Faith Spencer, Layne Ezzell and junior Bess Goodman each had two attempts against Centre.
Unfortunately, Friday's match concluded the Sewanee careers of Spencer, Ezzell, Kabler Colhoun, Lizzie Butler, Anna Marchetti, Lilly Barnett and Virginia Zakas.
