DECATUR, Ga. (Nov. 22, 2011) – Led by junior guard
Dana Middleton's 23 points, the Sewanee women's basketball team improved to 3-1 with a 87-77 win at Agnes Scott Tuesday.
After taking a 45-43 lead into the intermission, the Tigers slowly wore down Agnes Scott in the second half. Sewanee held a 74-70 lead with just under five minutes to play when the Tigers started to pull away from the Scotties.
After a pair of free throws by senior
Virginia Zakas, Middleton extended the Tigers' lead to eight when she hit a layup after two consecutive Sewanee offensive rebounds.
Immediately after, freshman forward
Kayla Sewell gave the ball right back to the Tigers with a timely steal. After sophomore guard
Paige Lowe missed a three-point shot off the turnover, Sewell converted her offensive rebound into points.
Agnes Scott would cut the lead to seven with 1:26 to play; however, that would be as close as the Scotties would get.
Overall, 10 Tigers scored in the contest with Middleton being the lone Sewanee player in double figures. Sewell and senior guard
Logan Miller added nine points while senior forward
Dani Kabbes, junior guard
Heather Baier, and Zakas all pitched in with eight. Sewell led the Tigers on the glass, with 13 rebounds and four blocks.
