SHERMAN, Texas (Oct. 9, 2011) – After jumping out to a 3-0 lead the Sewanee women's soccer team was able to hang on for a 3-2 victory over SCAC foe Austin College Sunday afternoon in Sherman, Texas.
With the win Sewanee now sits at 4-8-1 overall with a even 2-2 record in league action.
Early on in the contest freshman midfielder
Jamie Samociuk put Sewanee on the board first as the Broad Brook, Conn., native tapped home a rebound shot from senior defender
Kabler Colhoun in the 14
th minute of play.
The Tigers added to their advantage quickly in the second half as Samocluk scored her second goal of the match, this time off a pass from senior midfielder
Faith Spencer.
One minute later Sewanee pushed its lead to 3-0 as junior forward
Bess Goodman found the back of the net off a beautiful crossing pass from Colhoun with only 3:16 off the clock in the second period.
Austin College finally got on the board in the 73
rd minute of action as Lauren Scott scored the Kangroos' first goal. Natlaie Nelms added the final Austin score with 11 seconds to play.
Overall, Sewanee held a 10-shot advantage over the 'Roos, while freshman goalkeeper
Megan Poole stopped four Austin attempts on the day.
Sewanee returns to action with a 5:00 p.m. contest against Centre College Friday October 14
th at Puett Field.
