SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Sewanee tennis teams hosted Berry College on Tuesday afternoon and the Sewanee men picked up a 6-3 win, while the Sewanee women fell 8-1. After the match, men's coach
John Shackelford said that “without Jay Hill -- who had gone on a field trip -- we weren't sure how it would go. After taking a 2-1 lead in doubles, Andrew Jolley picked up an early win at \#6 singles and as Jolley goes, so go the Tigers.”
For the Sewanee men,
Philip Kuntz (Atlanta, Ga., Dunwoody) and
Levi Joy (Weatherford, Tex., Brock) picked up a doubles win at \#2 and
MItchell Henry (Wellesley, Mass., Wellesley) and
Will Holloway (Augusta, Ga., Lakeside) picked up a doubles win at \#3. In the singles matches, Kuntz, Holloway, Joy and
Andrew Jolley (Morristown, Tenn., Morristown West) picked up wins for the three point win.
Jenny Liles (Little Rock, Ark., Mount St. Mary) and
Michelle Flume (San Antonio, Tex., St. Mary's Hall) highlighted the Sewanee women's effort with an 8-2 win at \#1 doubles.
The Sewanee men are now 9-10 and will play Covenant in Chattanooga on Wednesday. The Sewanee women are 9-9 and will also play Covenant Wednesday.
