The Sewanee women's basketball team turned a 48-34 halftime lead into an 89-70 victory over host Hiwassee College on Saturday. Five Tigers found themselves in double digits, as
Logan Miller led the way with 23 points.
Dani Kabbes and
Claire Elliott each chipped in 18, while
Paige Lowe added 14 and
Clarissa Medley tallied 10 points in the contest.
The Tigers, who are currently ranked 2nd in Division III in 3-pointers made per game, knocked down 17 treys to help their effort, including shooting at a 40% clip from behind the arc in the first half. As a team, Sewanee went 28 of 72 from the field in the contest. They shot nearly 73% from the free throw line, going 16 of 22 from the charity stripe, all of which came in the second half. Hiwassee held the edge in rebounds, 58-49.
In addition to her 23 points, Miller picked up nine assists, making her just one assist shy of a double-double, three steals and six rebounds. She was a perfect 6 for 6 from the free throw line, with all six coming in the second half. Kabbes, who is currently ranked 14th in Division III in scoring average, poured in 18 points on 8 of 16 shooting. She led the Tigers in rebounding, pulling down 14 boards in the contest. Kabbes also turned in a season-high six blocks on the afternoon.
Elliott dropped in a season-high 18 points, while also falling just one mark shy of a double-double after grabbing nine rebounds. She picked up four assists and three steals in the effort. Lowe, who is perfect from the free throw line this year, made all four of her attempts on her way to scoring 14 points, a season-high for her. She also picked up three steals in the contest.
Clarissa Medley was the fifth Tiger in double figures, dropping 10 points on Hiwassee. She added to her day with nine rebounds and three assists.
Sewanee moves to 2-6 with the win. They will be back in action on December 31st when they travel to Birmingham-Southern for an SCAC match up.
