BOX SCORE

Brian Beckham tallied the hat trick for Maryville College tonight, as the visiting Scots downed Sewanee 5-0. The Tigers men's soccer team now falls to 3-7-2 on the year.

The guests got on the board first, just seventeen minutes into the contest, when Maryville's Tom Webster put a rocket past Sewanee goalkeeper Freddie Delchamps (Helena, Ala., Indian Springs). Webster's goal put the Scots up 1-0 and they never looked back. Sewanee was able to hold the visitors scoreless for the rest of the half but were never able to find the scoreboard themselves, despite several chances for the Tigers.

The second half belonged to Beckham. Just one minute and 53 seconds into the first half, Beckham put his first goal in the net. His unassisted goal at 46:53 mark put the Scots ahead 2-0.

Just ten minutes later, Beckham found the net again. This time, he put a shot into Delchamps hands, but Delchamps wasn't able to hold on as the ball rolled into the net as the Scots moved ahead 3-0. Beckham completed the hat trick nine minutes later, when he scored his third goal and put the Scots up 4-0 at the 65:47 mark.

Not quite four minutes after Beckham's third goal, Maryville's Jake Holt rounded out the Scots' scoring for the evening. Holt put one past Delchamps at the 69:38 point to make it 5-0, which would stand for the rest of the night.

Maryville held the advantage in shots over the Tigers 16 to 11. Sewanee led in corner kicks, 4-2. Delchamps collected five saves in just over 71 minutes of play.

The Tigers are now off until Rhodes comes to town on October 22nd. The Tigers and the Lynx will square off at 7:00 p.m.
