SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee hosted LaGrange in DIII men's soccer action Friday night and moved to 3-2 so far this season with a 2-0 shutout of the visiting Panthers.
Senior Matt O'Brien (Lawrenceville, Ga., Collins Hill) scored Sewanee's first and winning goal on a header from a Zack Goodwin (Mobile, Ala., St. Paul's) cross in the 22nd minute to give the Tigers the 1-0 edge for the first half. In the second, Sewanee added an insurance score as LaGrange knocked in an own goal for the Tigers.
Sewanee outshot LaGrange 16-1 and had a 5-1 edge in corner kicks taken. Newcomer Freddie Delchamps (Helena, Ala., Indian Springs) earned the shutout in goal for Sewanee and had one save. Josh Murphy had six saves in goal for the Panthers.
The 3-2 Tigers will play at Huntingdon College in Montgomery, Ala. on Sunday before hosting SCAC opponents DePauw and Centre Friday and Sunday of next weekend.
