SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Sewanee women's tennis team,
now ranked 20th nationally, hosted Swarthmore and increased its win
streak to four with a 7-2 win on the Mountain.
The \#1 doubles matched proved to be a two-hour pro set battle in
which Swarthmore's number ones edged out Sewanee'
Jordan Casey (Charleston, S.C., James Island) and
Michelle Flume (San Antonio, Texas, St. Mary's Hall) 9-7
in the tiebreaker after a marathon Sewanee match point at 6-5.
Sewanee swept the remainder of the doubles matches and the \#1
singles player Casey set the tone for the singles competition with
a 6-3, 6-4 win over Rachel Wallwork. Wallwork beat \#7
Emory's \#1 player yesterday. The rest of the Tigers followed
suite, winning five of six singles matches and with Abby Rudd
(Nashville, Tenn., Harpeth Hall) picking up another W in the
\#7 exhibition match.
Twentieth-ranked Sewanee is now 5-2 and is 5-0 against DIII
opponents. The Tigers will head to California for it's annual
spring break trip on which it will open with a match against
LaVerne on March 12.
