SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Sewanee women opened their season Saturday and the men played their second match in as many days, and the Tigers swept the visiting Majors of Millsaps with 9-0 wins for both the men and women.
The Sewanee women started off the morning with a near shutout in doubles, winning 8-0, 8-1 and 8-0 in the one, two and three doubles slots. Seniors
Jordan Casey (Charleston, S.C., James Island) and
Shannon Logsdon (Atlanta, Ga., North Atlanta) provided needed experience to the young team with wins at \#1 and \#4 and the four sophomores and freshmen won their singles matches, also, with Logsdon,
Derry Roberson (San Ignacio, Belize, St. Stephen's Episcopal) and
Lindsay Wilburn (Hilton Head, S.C., Hilton Head Christian) earning singles shutouts.
The Sewanee men started out with three doubles wins this afternoon, including a comeback 9-7 win by
Jay Hill (Greenville, S.C., Southside) and
Will Holloway (Augusta, Ga., Lakeside) in the \#2 spot after trailing 7-1. In singles, the Tigers swept the Majors again, with tight matches all the way through after
Charlie Boyd's (Nashville, Tenn., M.B.A.) commanding 6-1, 6-2 win at \#1. Fellow senior
Henry Litchfield (Oklahoma City, Okla., Heritage Hall) edged out Russell Anderson in a 7-5, 7-6 shootout.
The Sewanee women are now 1-0 and will play North Alabama on Sunday and the men are 1-1 and will play Cumberland on February 26.
