SEWANEE – Sewanee scored its only goal late in the first half on a
Brad Wills (Snellville, Ga., Brookwood) goal from a
Patrick Johnson (Cleveland, Tenn., McCallie) corner kick to shut out Hendrix in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer Friday night on the Mountain.
Sewanee outshot Hendrix 11-10 on the night and each team took four corner kicks. Hendrix committed 24 fouls compared to 12 for Sewanee and the visiting Warriors also racked up five yellow cards in a rough contest.
For the Tigers, newcomer
Matt Hale (Ft. Worth, Tex., All Saints) earned the shutout in goal and had four saves. Adam Legg had two saves for Hendrix.
"I am proud of how we kept our composure and weathered the pressure Hendrix put on us trying to get the equalizer. The backline held strong and Matt (Hale) made several good stops when Hendrix had us
pinned back". "We are becoming a good team in the air and coming forward out of the back, I believe the tough games we have had up until now have helped prepare us", said Coach
David Poggi
Sewanee moves to 4-5 so far on the year and will look to hit the .500 mark Sunday against Rhodes. The Tigers are 1-2 so far in the SCAC. Hendrix is 2-5 and 0-3 in the league. The Warriors will face Oglethorpe on Sunday.
