ATLANTA – Sewanee led Emory much of the first half in
Atlanta Tuesday night, but Emory took control in the second half to
get the 77-66 DIII men's basketball win. The Tigers led by as
much as five points in the first, but Emory was able to get the
double-digit win in the end.
Seniors Bradley Pierson (Rome, Ga., Darlington) and
Kenton Coleman (Ridgetop, Tenn., Greenbrier) led Sewanee
with 17 points each, while fellow senior Ben Pursell
(Franklin, Tenn., BGA) logged a double-double with 11 points
and 12 rebounds. All three tigers are averaging in double digits an
Pierson is averaging 18 ppg to lead the squad. Anthony
Fernandez led Emory with 22 points.
Emory was 27-58 from the field for a 46.6% total and Sewanee made
40.4% of its field goals (21-52). Sewanee made three of 20
three-point attempts and Emory was 2-11 from behind the line. Emory
turned the ball over 17 times and Sewanee only recorded 15
turnovers, but the Eagles out-rebounded the Tigers 38-28.
Sewanee is now 2-6 and will resume play after the holidays at
Birmingham-Southern and Rhodes on January 2 and 4.
