BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Sewanee men's basketball squad opened the season at Birmingham-Southern's Black Tie Classic Saturday night and fell 85-69 to Huntigdon College (1-0) in the nightcap. The Hawks led 47-35 at the half. BSC defeated The University of Dallas 72-48 in the early game.
Seniors
Bradley Pierson (Rome, Ga., Darlington) and
Casey Berry (Naples, Fla., Community School) led the Tiger scoring effort with 15 points each. Pierson surpassed the 500 career point mark with the performance, taking his career total to 503. Fellow senior
Kenton Coleman (Ridgetop, Tenn., Greenbrier) followed close behind with 14 points.
Garrett Hollingsworth (Roanoke, Va., North Cross) led the Sewanee rebounding effort with nine. he also had eight points on the night. Jeremy Pittman led Huntingdon with 27 points.
Sewanee was 20-54 from the field (37%), while the Hawks were 28-69 (41%). The Tigers were 36% accurate in three-pointers, while the Hawks only hit 17% of their three-pointers. Huntingdon logged 48 rebounds on the night, compared to only 37 for Sewanee.
