Longtime high school head coach and offensive coordinator Tracy Malone joins the Sewanee staff for the 2025 season. He will serve as quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator for the Tigers.
 
The Athens, Tenn., native started his coaching career at Riverdale High in Murfreesboro, Tenn., from 1998-02, working under legendary head coach Gary Rankin. The Warriors won a state championship in 2001 and finished as state runners-up in 2000 and 2002, compiling a 63-6 record.
 
Malone served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Mundy’s Mill High in Jonesboro, Ga., in 2003, the first year the school was open, with the Tigers compiling a 5-5 mark. He worked as the assistant head coach, offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Grayson High in Loganville, Ga., from 2004-05, earning Region Assistant Coach of the Year honors in 2005 with the Rams.
 
He became a head coach for the first time at Ardmore High in Ardmore, Ala., garnering Region Coach of the Year accolades with the Golden Eagles in 2006 after an 8-3 campaign. He worked three years at Ardmore before returning to Tennessee as the head coach at White County High in Sparta, Tenn.
 
In three years at White County, the Warriors improved from 1-10 to 5-6 to 8-5 and the quarterfinals of the TSSAA playoffs. He was voted Region Coach of the Year in 2010 at WCHS.
 
Malone moved to East Ridge High in Chattanooga, Tenn., as head coach from 2012-15, improving the Pioneers in much the same fashion. East Ridge was 3-7 in his first season and 5-6 in the second before a 10-0 regular season in 2015 and 12-1 overall, reaching the quarterfinals of the playoffs. He was named 
Chattanooga Times-Free Press Best of Preps Coach of the Year and Region Coach of the Year.
 
He then spent one year as head coach at Whitwell High in Whitwell, Tenn., posting a 6-6 mark with the Tigers.
 
Malone served as offensive coordinator at Austin-East High in Knoxville, Tenn., in 2017, helping the Roadrunners to a 10-3 mark and the quarterfinals of the playoffs. In 2018-19 he worked as the offensive coordinator at Knox West High in Knoxville, with the Rebels improving from 4-7 to 12-2 and a semifinal appearance in the playoffs, garnering Region Assistant Coach of the Year honors in 2019.
 
He spent the next three seasons as offensive coordinator at Cleveland High in Cleveland, Tenn., with the Blue Raiders posting records of 5-6, 6-5 and 6-4.
 
Malone worked the last two years as quarterbacks coach at Rockmart High in Rockmart, Ga. The Yellow Jackets registered a 13-2 mark in 2023 and were 11-3 in 2024, with Malone garnering Region Assistant Coach of the Year accolades in both campaigns. The 2023 team lost in the state finals, 48-45, and last year’s squad reached the state semifinals.
 
Malone earned his bachelor’s in Education from Middle Tennessee State in 1997 and received his master’s in Technology Education from Walden University in 2007.
