Lucas Venegas joined the Athletic Training staff at Sewanee in September 2023.
The Colombia native spent this past summer working as an intern in the Athletic Training department with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He spent two years gaining experience while working on his master’s at Weber State, primarily with track and field, soccer, softball and football for the Wildcats. He assisted with coverage of practices along with taping, casting and splinting and aided in the application of treatments and rehabilitation programs
Venegas also spent time at Viewmont and Ben Lomond High Schools in Ogden, Utah, and University of Utah Primary Children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, implementing individualized therapeutic interventions, providing treatment for injured student-athletes and monitoring responses for therapy.
During his time in his native Colombia, he worked as a Physical Therapist with the men’s and women’s soccer teams and in the High Performance and Conditioning Center at the University of La Sabana in Chia, Colombia, as well as at the Shaio Clinic in Bogota, Colombia. He conducted physical and functional examinations for athletes during preseason, in-season and postseason and developed injury prevention and rehabilitation programs.
Venegas earned a bachelor’s in Physical Therapy from the University of La Sabana in Chia, Colombia, in 2017 and a bachelor’s in Athletic Therapy from Weber State. He received a master’s in Athletic Training from Weber State in April 2023.
