Joey Vaughan begins his first season at Sewanee for the 2026 season as Special Teams Coordinator and Linebackers Coach for the Tigers.
Vaughan spent last season at Averett University in Danville, Va., serving as Special Teams Coordinator and Defensive Pass Game Coordinator as well as coaching defensive backs for the Cougars. He worked with three of the Top 10 players in the conference in pass break-ups.
The Oakton, Va., native worked one year at Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham in Florham, N.J., in 2024 as the Defensive Pass Game Coordinator as well as coaching defensive backs and specialists. He tutored a pair of all-conference selections, helping the Devils to a 7-4 record, the second-most wins in program history in a single season, as well as winning the school's first MAC-Centennial Bowl game.
Vaughan served three years at Salisbury University in Salisbury, Md., from 2021-23 as Quality Control and Safeties Coach, instructing multiple all-conference selections and one All-American in 2022. The Sea Gulls won conference championships in 2021 and 2022, earning berths in the NCAA Division III playoffs.
Vaughan earned his bachelor’s in Communications with a minor in Coaching as well as History from Salisbury in 2021.
