SEWANEE, Tenn. – Mariella Congeni clinched the match for Sewanee as the No. 27-ranked Tigers women's tennis team defeated No. 26-ranked Vassar College on Monday afternoon in Los Angeles, Calif.

Sewanee secured the doubles point to start the match. Harper High and Lexi Barbee earned a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles, but Vassar answered shortly after with a 6-2 victory of its own at No. 2. With the point coming down to court one, Congeni and Ivy Wilson pulled out a 7-5 win to clinch the doubles point for the Tigers.

Vassar claimed the first singles point at No. 4, but Hanna Davis restored Sewanee's advantage with a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles. Vassar tied the match again with a three-set win at No. 5 and then took a 3-2 lead with a straight-sets victory at No. 3 in two hours and 13 minutes.

High evened the match at 3-3 for Sewanee after dropping the first set 7-5, battling back to win the second in a tiebreaker, 7-3, before taking the third set 6-3. Congeni then clinched the match for the Tigers in three sets, bouncing back from a 7-5 first-set loss to claim the final two sets, 6-3, 6-2.

Sewanee will travel to face Chapman on Tuesday afternoon.
