SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee Tigers men's tennis opened the 2026 season against Covenant College on Saturday morning, sweeping the match, 7-0, inside the Charlotte Guerry Indoor Courts, handing head coach Hamza Khan his first official win as a head coach.
Drew Rukavina and
Henry Hyden collected a quick 6-1 win at line three doubles, before
Andre-Remi Jakobi and
Samuel Schroerlucke secured the doubles point with a 6-4 victory at line one. Lucas Weigley and
Max Verellen completed the doubles sweep with a 6-3 win at line two.
With three indoor courts available, Jakobi, Hyden, and Schroerlucke were first on for the Tigers. Schroerlucke earned a 6-2, 6-3 win at line three in just over an hour. At line one, Jakobi captured a three-set victory, 7-5, 3-6, 6-1, before Hyden clinched the match for Sewanee. At line two, Hyden dropped the opening set in a tiebreaker, 7-2, but regrouped to secure a three-set win, dropping just two games in the final two sets, 6-7 (2), 6-0, 6-2.
With the match decided, Sewanee played out the remaining contests. At line four, Verellen defeated Graham Hayes, 6-7 (4), 6-4. Lucas Weigley did not drop a game, rolling to a 6-0, 6-0 win in 38 minutes at line five, and Rukavina completed the sweep with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at line six.
Sewanee will face East Texas Baptist University on Sunday at 9 a.m.
