Men's Tennis picks up two 6-1 wins over No. 75 Asbury and Centre

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee men's tennis picked up two wins on Saturday against No. 75 Asbury and Centre in Danville, Ky. 

The Tigers defeated the Eagles and the Colonels 6-1. 

The Tigers opened the day against No. 75 Asbury, quickly sweeping doubles. Quinn Wicklund and Jordan Theron got the match started for the Tigers with a quick 6-0 win at No.1. Drew Rukavina and Max Verellen secured the doubles point with a 6-1 win at No. 3, and Talman Ramsey and Gil Weston secured the doubles sweep with a 6-3 win at No. 2. 

Ben Lammert quickly rolled through singles at No. 2, adding another point for the Tigers with a 6-4, 6-3 win in an hour. Wicklund followed suit just minutes later with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3. Drew Rukavina clinched the match for the Tigers with a 6-3, 7-6 (2) win at No. 5. Andre-Remi Jakobi dropped the first set 6-1, but came back to win the next two, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1. Asbury collected their lone point at No. 6 in three sets. At No. 4, Gil Weston dropped a tight first set 5-7, but took the second set in a tiebreaker, 7-3, and won the match in a super tiebreaker, 10-7. 

Against Centre, the Tigers dropped the doubles point. Centre won at two and three doubles, but the Theron and Jakobi won at No. 1 in a tiebreaker. 

The Tigers bounced back quickly in singles, winning all six matches. Jakobi dropped just two games for a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2, Theron won at No. 1, 6-2, 6-1, and Henry Hyden collected a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 6. Ramsey won at No. 3, 6-1, 6-3, and Max Verellen picked up a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 4. Charlie Pizzuti won the first set 7-5, but dropped the second 4-6. He collected the win in a third-set tiebreaker, 10-5. 

Sewanee will face No. 9 Kenyon tomorrow, April 20 with a 9 a.m. CT start.
