SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee men's tennis dropped another third set on the road to lose to No. 27 Washington and Lee on Sunday afternoon in Lexington, Va.

Sewanee had a slow start in doubles, losing at lines one and three, sending the Generals into singles up 1-0. At two, Jordan Theron and Max Verellen picked up a 7-5 win.

The Tigers started out strong in singles as Gil Weston picked up a quick 6-1, 6-3 win at line four followed by Quinn Wicklund with a straight sets win at line three, 6-4, 6-1. Theron took the first set against Washington and Lee's Evan Erb, ranked 44th nationally, but dropped the second set 6-1. Theron regrouped and dropped just one more game in the final set for a 6-1 win and a 3-1 Sewanee led.

The Tigers needed just one more match to clinch but fell at both five and six. Ramsey fell at five, 6-2, 7-5, and the match came down to a freshman at line six for the second day in a row. Verellen took the first set, 6-4, but Sanjheev Rao battled back taking the next two sets, 6-3, 6-4, and clinched the match for the Generals.

Sewanee will look to bounce back as they face No. 20 Carnegie Mellon on the road in Atlanta on Saturday, March 1 at Emory.
