Gil Weston closed out doubles with a tiebreaker victory and
Talman Ramsey and
Jordan Theron collected singles wins for 15
th-ranked Sewanee in a 5-0 triumph over Centre College in the semifinals of the SAA Men's Tennis Championships here Saturday at the Adams Tennis Center.
The Tigers (15-4) advance to take on either Birmingham-Southern in the finals of the conference tournament Sunday at 9 a.m. CT.
Peyton Erck and
Andre-Remi Jakobi got a break at 2-3 and then won the last four games en route to an 8-4 victory at No. 2 over Ben Rueff and Isaac Flanery and the first point for the Tigers.
Sewanee's ninth-ranked
Jordan Theron and
Quinn Wicklund posted an early break at No. 1 and led 4-1, but Centre's Ty Bush and Bo Bush broke twice in a span of six games, pulling within 6-5. The Tigers added another break to close out the match, 8-6.
Baer and Weston collected a break and took a 7-4 advantage before the Colonels' duo of Jasper Gazzo and Chase Turley broke break and forced a tiebreaker. The breaker was tied at four before Baer and Weston won the final three points to help Sewanee sweep the doubles.
In singles third-ranked Theron defeated Rueff, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 1 just minutes before Ramsey clinched the team victory with a 6-2, 6-1, win at No. 4 over Flanery.
The Tigers also won the first set in three other singles outings, including Wicklund against Whitt (6-4, 3-1) at No. 2, Weston versus Ty Bush (6-4, 4-3) at No. 3 and
Henry Hyden against Bo Bush (6-2, 3-2) at No. 5.
Charlie Pizzuti lost the first set, 6-4, at No. 6 versus Gazzo.
