Tigers take two matches in Danville

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee men's tennis posted a pair of victories Saturday in Danville, Ky., defeating Centre College, 8-1, and Asbury University, 5-0, with the Tigers sweeping the doubles point in both matches.
 
In the first match of the day, Sewanee swept the doubles and won in straight sets in 5-of-6 singles outings versus Centre.
 
Jordan Theron and Quinn Wicklund defeated Bo Bush and Ty Bush, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles while Peyton Erck and Mark Motlow recorded an 8-5 win at No. 2 over Ben Rueff and Ashton Whitt. Gil Weston and Talman Ramsey collected an 8-4 decision at No. 3 versus Jasper Gazzo and Chase Turley.
 
In singles Theron defeated Rueff, 7-5, 6-4, at No. 1 while Wicklund registered a 6-2, 6-2, decision at No. 2 against Whitt. Henry Hyden posted a 6-4, 6-3, win at No. 4 over Isaac Flanery, Charlie Pizzuti tallied a 6-3, 6-4, triumph at No. 5 versus Bo Bush and Drew Rukavina won 7-6, 6-2, at No. 6 against Gazzo.
 
The Colonels only point of the match was a 7-6, 4-6, 10-8, decision at No 3 by Ty Bush against Ramsey.
 
In the afternoon Sewanee swept the doubles matches and won singles outings at Nos. 2 and 5 for the 5-0 team victory.
 
Theron and Wicklund defeated Ignacio Ardiles and Franco Patino, 8-1, at No. 1 doubles and Erck and Motlow collected an 8-0 decision against Andres Caceres and Ben Moore at No. 2. Ramsey and Weston registered an 8-2 win at No. 3 over Alejandro Caceres and Gregorio Bustingorri.
 
In singles Weston tallied a 6-1, 6-2, victory at No. 2 and Rukavina defeated Andres Caceres, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 5. Wicklund, Hyden and Jackson Davis all won the first set as well for the Tigers.
 
Sewanee plays three matches at home next weekend, hosting Birmingham-Southern on Saturday at 9 a.m. and Millsaps College and Piedmont University on Sunday.
