Tigers start their season against Piedmont; Francell records four wins

SEWANEE, Tenn. – Sewanee's men's and women's swimming and diving teams started their season at home with a meet against Piedmont. Audrey Francell placed first in all four events she swam as the Sewanee women's swim and dive team won 172-105 against Piedmont on Saturday. The men fell 74-197. 

On the women's side, the Tigers won 13 of 16 events. Sophomore Audrey Francell, who competed in the 50 free, 100 fly, 200 yd medley relay, and 200 yd fly relay, placed first in all four events. Joining Francell in the 200 medley relay was Riley Carswell, Abigail Spera, and Mary-Louise LeMieux who set the tone of the meet early by placing first .56 ahead of their opponents. The 200 free relay consisted of Abigail Spera, Jules Vidal, and Carswell who finished with a time of 1:48.35. 

Carswell also took home first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:04.87. LeMieux also won the 200 fly and 200 IM. In the 200 free, LeMieux touched the wall 16.35 seconds ahead of the pack. In the 200 IM she finished with a top time of 2:23.65.

Junior Sophie Yanoshik won the 1000 free with a time of 12:03.43 and was part of the Sewanee sweep of the podium for the 200 yd breaststroke, finishing behind teammate Rachel Little and Spera, who finished first and second respectively. Little also took the top time in the 100 breaststroke finishing .35 ahead of Madison Nance from Piedmont. 

Finally, on the women's side, Jules Vidal placed first in the 500 free with a time of 5:50.90. 

In the pool for the men, Jackson Pillow took first by 9 milliseconds in the 100 backstroke. 

In the 1 m diving events, Greta Cobb took first for the women (201.52) and Jack Goodson placed first for the men (106.95). On the 3 m board, Ellie Vincent finished with a score of 114.22 and Jack Goodson scored 115.35. 

The Tigers return to the pool to open SAA conference play in a tri-meet against Centre and Birmingham-Southern on Friday, October 6.
